Sell your car in Atlantic City: running or not, rusted or flooded

Ask for a cash offer online, then choose a pickup time. The truck comes anywhere on the island or the mainland side of the bridges. Before pickup, sort out three local things: where the car sits if a flood warning goes out, any E-ZPass tag inside it, and your City Hall parking sticker.

Pickup day

From the form to the truck

  1. Start with the form. It’s at the top of this page, or call if you’d rather talk.
  2. Set the hour around your shift. Early mornings and afternoons before a night shift both work for pickup.
  3. Keep the appointment short. It takes a quick look at the car and your signature, and the plates come off. Afterward, update your E-ZPass account, and get a sticker for your next car, as the questions above explain.

Where we pick up around Atlantic City

The truck comes to the car anywhere on the island or on the mainland side of the bridges. On the island, that runs from Atlantic City’s 08401 through Ventnor City to Margate City’s 08402. Across the bridges, it reaches Brigantine and the mainland towns from Absecon and Pleasantville out to Galloway Township and Egg Harbor Township (08234).

Parked on Atlantic or Pacific Avenue? As of Sept. 22, 2026, both were being repaved: Pacific Avenue in the daytime, Atlantic Avenue overnight. NO PARKING signs go up where crews are scheduled to work (city notice). Check the signs on your block when you set the pickup time.

Coastal flood warnings

When the city says move your car

When the City of Atlantic City posted a nor’easter and coastal flooding warning on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, it asked residents to move their vehicles to higher ground. The garage at Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues offered free parking through at least 1 p.m. the next day, and the city said it would extend the free period if needed. It also asked drivers to stay out of flooded roadways (city notice).

Warnings like that go out on AC Alerts, the city’s free alert system. You pick the topics, such as severe weather and road closures, and how the messages reach you. If a warning comes before your pickup day, move the car first and tell us where it ended up.

If the car has already sat in salt water, our guide to selling a flood-damaged car explains what a flood history changes about the sale.

Old, rusted or won’t start

Cash for your car in Atlantic City

The city’s Code Enforcement office says it plainly: “Parking is at a premium within the city.” A junk car in Atlantic City that no longer runs still holds one of those spaces, on the block or in the driveway.

Looking for cash for cars in Atlantic City that are past fixing? Rust-through panels still get a real number. For a car that won’t start or isn’t worth repairing, the junk car page walks through that sale.

If it won't start because the engine or transmission gave out, see selling a car with an overheating or blown engine or selling a car with a failing transmission. If salt water got in and your insurer called the car a total loss, selling a car after the insurer totals it explains the payout and the salvage title that comes next.

Atlantic City questions

Asked by Atlantic City sellers

Is there an NJ MVC office in Atlantic City?

No. The NJ MVC, which many people still search for as the NJ DMV, has no motor vehicle agency in Atlantic City. The closest vehicle center is Cardiff, at 6725 Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township.

Why keep my E-ZPass account open after the sale?

Because Atlantic City Expressway trips now take about a week to post. The Expressway went all-electronic on Jan. 4, 2026, and when a valid tag is read, the toll comes out of that E-ZPass account. Take your tag out of the car, wait for the last trips to show up, then take the sold car’s plate off the account: SJTA tells E-ZPass customers to keep the plates on their accounts up to date. The Farley walk-up center listed above can make that change in person.

Does my Atlantic City parking sticker carry over to the next car?

Stickers are tied to registered cars. City Hall gives each legal resident one sticker per vehicle registered in their name, and a valid registration is required. So the next car needs its own sticker: take its registration to City Hall with proof of residency, such as a current utility bill or, if you rent, a notarized lease. Permits last one year and are renewed at the start of each year.

My car quit on the Atlantic City Expressway. Who helps?

Call #ACE (#223) from a cell phone, or 609-965-7200. Both reach SJTA dispatchers, who can send the Emergency Services Patrol, a state police car or both. The patrol circles the 44-mile Expressway and, at no cost, changes tires, boosts batteries and brings emergency gas, or calls for a tow if it can’t get the car running. If the car only makes it home, pickup can happen there.

Whether the buyer needs an inspection, and what the title needs from you, are statewide questions answered on our New Jersey page.
