How to fill out Nevada VP 104, the Bill of Sale

Releases your interest in the vehicle and is the record of the sale you keep. It does not replace the title - a certificate of title or other ownership document has to go with it.

Two documents, and they are not the same thing. Take the blank VP 104 from the dmv.nv.gov copy so you get the revision that is current today, then print our VP 104 guide and keep it beside you while you fill theirs in.

Written against VP 104 (Rev 01/2024), issued under NRS 482.426 and NRS 490.082. Nevada last touched this one in January 2024. Check the code in the footer of the PDF you print matches, because a superseded bill of sale is a wasted trip.

Consideration
The price, written out in words on the long line and again in figures after the dollar sign. Both, not one or the other.
Watch out: Words and figures have to agree. If they do not, the figure is not the one that wins - the form goes back.

The buyer fills this in
New owner information
First, middle and last name of the buyer, exactly as the new title will be printed, then the AND or OR box, then licence or ID number and both addresses.
Watch out: Trading as a business? DBA in front of the name. Leased? Lessee and Lessor after it, semicolons between multiple lessees.

The buyer fills this in
Second buyer
Only used when two people are going on the title. One buyer means the whole block stays empty.
Watch out: Three or more owners needs a second VP 104 attached, with AND or OR written between the second and third names.

Buyer's signature and date
The buyer signs and dates. Telephone and e-mail underneath are for the DMV to reach them.
Watch out: Only one signature is required even where AND appears between the buyers' names - the form says so in small print right underneath.

The vehicle
VIN one character per box, then year, make, model and body type. There is a separate tick box for off-highway vehicles.
Watch out: Copy the VIN off the title, not off the dashboard plate, and check it character by character. A single wrong digit voids the transfer.

Rebuilt
Tick only if the vehicle has been rebuilt as NRS 482.098 defines it. Does not apply to off-highway vehicles.
Watch out: If the title is branded Rebuilt, this box is not optional. Leaving it unticked on a rebuilt car is a false statement on a signed form.

Lien in favour of
Names any lender taking an interest in the car, with their licence or ELT number and address.
Watch out: No lien? Write the word NONE on the line. The form says so underneath, and leaving it blank is not the same thing.

Seller
Your full legal name, licence or ID number or date of birth or FEIN, mailing address, then sign and date.
Watch out: Signatures must be originals - photocopies are not acceptable - and nothing on the form may be changed once it is signed.

What gets this one rejected

•Leaving the lien line blank instead of writing NONE.
•A photocopied signature - originals only, on both sides.
•Any alteration or erasure, which triggers a demand for extra documentation or verification.
•Changing anything after signing. The form says changes may not be made once it is signed.
