Replacing a lost car title in Nevada
Nevada charges $20 if the car is staying in the state and $35 if it is not — and either way the application has to be witnessed.
What Nevada charges
The replacement title fee is $20. $20.00 if the vehicle is staying in Nevada; $35.00 if it is not physically located or registered in Nevada. Form VP-012, by mail to Carson City or in person; must be notarized or witnessed by an authorized Nevada DMV representative (NRS 482.438). An $8.25 Title Processing Fee applies to any complete change of ownership.

The part that catches people out
The split is unusual and it is about where the vehicle physically is, not where you are. A car located and registered in Nevada replaces its title for $20.00; one that has left, or was never registered there, costs $35.00. Form VP-012 goes by post to Carson City or in person, and under NRS 482.438 the signature must be notarised or witnessed by an authorised Nevada DMV representative — the second option being free if you are at the counter anyway.
