If a junk vehicle notice shows up
- Find the date. The notice goes to the property owner and the car's last registered owner and says what must be fixed by when.
- Appeal within 10 calendar days if you disagree. The Hearing Examiner hears it within 18 calendar days, and the city has to prove the violation.
- Or deal with the car first. Otherwise the city can have it removed and disposed of, bill the property owner and file a lien with the County Auditor for the costs.
Where we pick up around Spokane
We buy cars across Spokane County: downtown (99201), Spokane Valley, Millwood and Liberty Lake to the east, Airway Heights (99001) and Medical Lake on the West Plains, Cheney (99004) to the south, and Mead and Deer Park to the north. The offer works the same at a Millwood curb as downtown. Studded tires or a spare set of wheels? Mention them, and we'll tell you whether they add to the deal or are worth more sold on their own.
Snow season rules. From Nov. 15 to March 15 the city asks residents to park on the odd-numbered side of residential streets. On snowy days downtown bans street parking from midnight to 6 a.m., and cars can be towed during noticed events (City of Spokane).
Fairchild's storage and vehicle sales lot
Fairchild Air Force Base sits 12 miles west of the city. To ship or store a car on a PCS from there, you book through PCSmyPOV, the site service members use to move or store a vehicle.
To store it or sell it on base, the base's Outdoor Recreation office rents spots on a fenced storage lot or its vehicle sales lot, from $35 a month for 20 feet to $60 for 40 feet. The car must be in good repair, plated and movable within a day of notice, and you show registration and insurance first. Sales-lot rent is due on the 1st, with no refund if the car sells mid-month (92nd Force Support Squadron).
A car that doesn't run or has no plate won't qualify for the lot. If selling is the plan, start with our guide to selling your car before a PCS move.
Cash for your car in Spokane
Junk cars in Spokane fall under city code in effect since Aug. 20, 2025. Only one inoperable or unlicensed vehicle may be stored outdoors on private property, and it has to sit on an all-weather surface, not grass or dirt. A car can be certified as junk when it meets three of four tests: three or more years old, badly damaged, apparently inoperable, or worth about its scrap value. Unless it's out of sight inside a building, it's then a public nuisance (Spokane Municipal Code 10.63).
If you're weighing cash for cars in Spokane because yours has reached that point, it can still get a cash offer as it sits. For a car worth about its scrap value, start at our junk car page.
For a car badly damaged in a crash or a fire, selling an accident- or fire-damaged car explains how the damage changes a sale. For one that won't run because the engine blew or the transmission slips or has no reverse, see selling a car with a blown or seized engine or selling a car whose transmission slips.

- •Saturday counters: three of the county's eight other vehicle licensing offices post Saturday hours: on S. Washington St., on N. Division St. and in Deer Park. (Spokane County)
Asked by Spokane sellers
How long can a dead car stay parked on a Spokane street?
Outside the paid parking zone, a car can stay on one block face for up to 72 hours at a stretch; inside it, 24. A junk vehicle can't be parked on any public right-of-way at all (SMC 16A.05.310, 16A.05.220).
What does a private buyer need to see my car on Fairchild?
A visitor pass, which takes an identity check, a background check and a validated reason for entry. The Visitor Control Center issues passes 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays; outside those hours and on holidays, the Main Gate does. If you live off base, you can sponsor a visitor only for the day of the visit, and drivers must show current registration and insurance.
I live in Spokane Valley. Who deals with a dead car in the driveway there?
Spokane Valley is its own city with its own code enforcement, and among the problems it lists as typically reported is an excessive number of vehicles that look inoperable or unregistered. It aims for voluntary compliance first; call 509-720-5000.
Washington's title and Report of Sale steps are on our Washington page; nothing about them changes in Spokane County.
