Before you leave Yuma
- 1. Put your date in the request. A detach date, a drive-north date, whatever it is: the offer and the pickup get built to beat it.
- 2. Plan around the gate. At the air station, that means Pass and Registration and its hours in the tip above, plus the North Gate, which is open only 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays; the Main Gate never closes. At the proving ground, it means the Visitor Control Center.
- 3. Have the keys and title on hand. The driver looks the car over at pickup and checks it against the description you gave when you asked for the offer.
Where we pick up around Yuma
Pickup is free anywhere in Yuma County, and the distance doesn’t change the offer. That covers Yuma itself (85364 and 85365), San Luis and Somerton, Fortuna Foothills (85367), and the smaller stops out to Dateland. Base housing, an RV resort space and a farm road are all fine pickup addresses.
Pickup inside the MCAS Yuma gate needs a sponsor. The air station’s Trusted Traveler Program is suspended (as of September 2026), so anyone without their own base access has to go to Pass and Registration, in Building 952 at the Main Gate, with a DoD ID card holder as sponsor. Set the pickup inside its hours: 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on most weekdays, but only until 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
Start at the DMO in Building 328
The air station’s Distribution Management Office (DMO) handles personal property moves for station and tenant commands at both MCAS Yuma and Yuma Proving Ground. It’s in Building 328 on Spears Street, by the North Gate, open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, closed from 11 a.m. on Thursdays for training, and walk-ins are welcome.
Its personal property counseling office, at 928-269-6652, is where to ask whether your orders pay to ship or store the car. If the car would ship, look at where it has to be dropped off, in the list below, before you decide.

Cash for your car in Yuma
At MCAS Yuma, the Provost Marshal’s Office puts a neon orange, green or pink sticker on the windshield of a car that has been sitting and gathering cobwebs, has flat tires, is in pieces or looks abandoned, and asks you to contact the PMO desk sergeant before you remove it. If the car under that sticker, or one that won’t start after a summer parked at your winter place, is one you’d rather sell than fix, ask for an offer. California drop-offs, summer heat and the MVD
- •Shipping a car at government expense on PCS orders starts with a drop-off at a vehicle processing center booked through PCSmyPOV, and as of September 2026 the program lists none in Arizona. Its two California centers are the San Diego VPC, which is in El Cajon, and the Los Angeles VPC. Both ask for a car with no cracks in the windshield or windows (source)

My car still has home-state plates. What does it need to stay on MCAS Yuma until pickup?
Current registration and current insurance. The Provost Marshal's Office says every vehicle on the installation must have both at all times, so don't cancel the policy or let the registration lapse before the car leaves. Keeping out-of-state registration while you're stationed here also takes a letter from your insurer saying it knows the car is garaged in Arizona. I'm deploying, not moving. Where should the car go?
Not the barracks parking lot. PMO asks you not to leave a vehicle there when you deploy, and it has a deployment lot for TAD and deployments; call the PMO desk sergeant at 928-269-2205 and ask for AID. If you'd rather not have the car sit while you're gone, selling it before you leave is the other choice.
I winter in the Foothills and head north in spring. Should I sell before I go or leave the car here?
That depends on the car, but know what it would sit through: the whole 100-degree season in the list above. If you sell, tell us your drive-north date, and the sale happens right in the driveway of your winter place or at your RV space.
Can you pick up a car from housing at Yuma Proving Ground?
Yes, base housing is a pickup address. Any visitor without a military ID or CAC, including whoever comes for the car, gets a background check at YPG's Visitor Control Center, Building 2020 off Imperial Dam Road. It normally takes no longer than 15 minutes and needs a REAL ID-compliant license, the vehicle's registration and proof of insurance. The center runs those checks Monday through Thursday.
