When to go if you need title work first
- Go early, and not on the last day of the month. Title work stops before the doors close: at 2 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. On the last day of the month the office does renewals only.
- Book a slot or join the line online. Appointment slots open 30 days ahead, at midnight. You can also reserve a spot in that day's line online from 8 a.m. on business days; the line closes when the office can't serve everyone before closing. When demand runs too high, walk-ins get cut off.
Where we pick up around Kansas City, KS
Pickup covers all of Wyandotte County, from 66101 by the river to 66112 on the west side, with Edwardsville and Bonner Springs included. Past the county line it reaches Leavenworth (66048), Lansing, Basehor, Tonganoxie and De Soto. Tell us where the car is parked, and that's where we pick it up.
Leave the plate on until pickup day. The Unified Government's traffic code, Sec. 35-492, bars parking on a street, roadway or city parking facility without a current plate, and the fine is at least $50. A car waiting at the curb for pickup needs its plate.
Where KCK does title work
People search for the Kansas DMV, but the state agency is the Division of Vehicles, and in Kansas City, Kansas you reach it through the Wyandotte County Treasurer's Motor Vehicle office, the tag office. Title work is done at two counters: the Wyandotte County Courthouse, 710 N 7th St, Suite 240, and the Wyandotte County Annex, 8200 State Avenue. Both are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
The county's list of title work includes a duplicate title application, a title or plate transfer, and adding or dropping a name. If your title is lost, start the duplicate with the tag office before you set a pickup date.
Cash for your car in Kansas City, KS
The Unified Government's property maintenance rules put it plainly: “Vehicles that don't work cannot be parked on residential property.” A vehicle there also has to sit on cement, blacktop or existing gravel, with current registration and a visible plate that belongs to it. A car cited for one of these gets a light pink sticker, a Tow Notice. From the date on the notice you have 10 business days to move the car or register it, or it can be towed at your expense. The county's purple sticker is an Administrative Citation, given when a re-inspection finds cited violations still there, and code-violation fines run $100 to $1,500.
If a pink sticker is what sent you looking for cash for cars in Kansas City, KS, the 10 business days count from the date printed on it, so start early. We make offers on old, damaged, junk and non-running cars, and pickup handles a car that won't move under its own power. For a car in that state, start with our junk car offer.

Asked by Kansas City, KS sellers
Can I park my car on the street in Kansas City, KS, to show it for sale?
Not for that purpose. Sec. 35-478 of the Unified Government code bars parking a vehicle on any roadway for the principal purpose of displaying it for sale. The same section bars parking on the street to wash, grease or repair a car, except for repairs an emergency forces.
My car died and it's sitting at the curb. Can it stay there until it sells?
Not under Sec. 35-483. It bars parking or storing a dead, damaged or disabled vehicle in the roadway, or in the strip between the sidewalk or property line and the curb. The Unified Government may also remove and impound a vehicle left on a public highway or other property open to the public.
Can I sell my car in Kansas City, KS if the title is still from Missouri?
Yes, but read Missouri's seller rules, since Missouri issued the title. The Missouri Department of Revenue says the seller must report the sale within 30 days, on a Notice of Sale (Form 5049) or a Bill of Sale (Form 1957), and must remove the license plates before the buyer takes the vehicle. Our guide to selling a car with an out-of-state title covers the rest.
Can the Bonner Springs tag office handle my title?
No. The county's office at 200 E 3rd St in Bonner Springs is a pilot location for renewals only, open Mondays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Title work goes to the Courthouse or the Annex.
I use the Turnpike out of KCK. What happens to my KTAG when I sell?
Once the car is sold, the KTAG on it is no longer in your possession, so tell the Kansas Turnpike Authority. The DriveKS user agreement says customers must notify KTA when a transponder on their account is no longer in their possession, and are responsible for all tolls until KTA is notified. It also asks customers to keep the vehicle and plate information on the account up to date. Tolls are matched to a transponder or to a license plate on the account. KTA's in-person counters are in Wichita, Topeka and Lawrence, so from KCK it's DriveKS.com or the phone.
