Selling to a private buyer

Where your buyer titles the car in Canyon County

  1. A buyer titling the car in Canyon County takes the title you signed over to the Canyon County Assessor's motor vehicle office, the county's Idaho DMV counter, at 6107 Graye Lane, Suite A, in Caldwell. ITD's office list shows no vehicle office in Nampa itself.
  2. Walk-ins are accepted, but appointments come first. The county releases new appointment slots every day on its DMV booking page.
  3. If another state issued your title, the buyer also has to bring the car itself for a VIN inspection. Moved here with the car? Our guide to selling on an out-of-state title covers your side.
Local pickup

Where we pick up around Nampa

You don't have to bring the car anywhere. Pickup is free at your driveway in Nampa, from 83651 and 83687 on the north side to 83686 in the south. Our drivers work Nampa, Caldwell and Middleton daily, and reach farm towns out to Homedale, Marsing and Melba on short lead time. Distance from the interstate doesn't change your offer.

Where the car waits: Under city code 6-8-3, an unregistered or inoperative car can't be parked on the street in Nampa for any length of time. The one exception is a car that broke down while being driven: once you tell the police, it may stay against the curb for a limited number of hours while you arrange repairs or removal. Otherwise park it in the driveway, with no part of it hanging over the sidewalk.

Cars that no longer run

Cash for your car in Nampa

A car that has stopped running can't just sit in a Nampa side yard. City code 6-8-5 allows a wrecked, junked or inoperative vehicle no more than 48 hours on private property, unless it's inside an enclosed building or under a city salvage permit. The code's definition covers an unsightly car that lacks current registration and plates, can't be safely driven under its own power, or has a broken or missing part it needs to move, such as a flat tire. If that rule is why you're looking for cash for cars in Nampa, ask for an offer on the car as it sits. Asking costs nothing, and pickup from your property is free. Even a car that fits the code's definition still has value in its parts and its clean title, and we make offers on junk cars too.

Sitting in the yard with a blown head gasket, a seized engine or a transmission that won't go into gear? Selling a car with engine problems and selling a car with a bad transmission weigh the repair bill against selling it as is, and selling an accident-damaged car covers a car that's been wrecked.

Nampa questions

Asked by Nampa sellers

Can I still sell my junk car in Nampa after it's been tagged?

Yes, and selling it is one way to meet the order. Under city code 6-8-5, Nampa police or code enforcement can order an inoperative car removed within 48 hours. The notice goes on the car, and a copy goes by certified mail to an adult living at the property. If the car is still there when time runs out, the city can have it towed and charge the owner for the tow plus a storage charge for each day it holds the car. If the owner doesn't claim it within 30 days, it is sold. If you'd rather sell it yourself, ask for an offer and mention the notice when you book pickup.

Can I keep a parts car at my house in Nampa?

Outside an enclosed building, only with a salvage permit (city code 6-8-6). For a nonrefundable $7, the city can allow two inoperative vehicles on one property: one used for parts, and one being repaired that's registered to you. A six-month permit requires both cars to be screened from public view and from the neighbors, and it may be renewed up to three more times if the repair shows significant progress. If those conditions can't be met, the city may issue a 30-day permit instead. An address can have only one permit in any 12 months.

Can a retired box truck or flatbed stay at my house in Nampa?

In most cases, no. Nampa's zoning code keeps "generic commercial vehicles" off residentially zoned lots (code 10-22-1). Its list includes dump trucks, box trucks, flatbeds, step vans and any truck registered as a commercial vehicle. There are two exceptions. Someone running a home business there may keep one such vehicle under 15,000 pounds GVWR. And commercial vehicles may stay during construction on that same lot, for up to a year. We buy work trucks too. Clear out the toolboxes before pickup, or ask us what stays with the truck.

The title is from another state and the car won't run. Where can my buyer get the VIN inspected?

The Nampa Police Department Volunteers Group does VIN inspections on immobile vehicles, as well as on commercial vehicles and for tow companies. It does them only on Tuesdays; call 208-468-7916. For any other vehicle, the city sends you to your local DMV.

For your side of the paperwork, see our Idaho selling page; when we're the buyer, we walk you through the release of liability before the truck leaves.

Or send the details — we'll come to you

Give us the year, the true mileage, what it's been hauling and whether it runs. On a truck, add whether the four-wheel drive engages. We'll price it from there.
