How to fill out Idaho 3337

The form most people assume is the centre of an Idaho sale, and mostly is not. Read its own Intended Users line: Idaho financial agencies registered with the Department of Finance, licensed Idaho manufactured home dealers, out-of-state dealerships and financial agencies, and private party sales to Idaho residents where the sale is conducted outside the state of Idaho. In an ordinary sale between two Idahoans, nobody fills this in at home - the county assessor's deputy prepares the title application at the counter for the buyer to sign. ITD's Vehicle Titles page lists it as optional for exactly that reason. It is here because a seller will find it, download it, and need to know whose form it is.

Written against 3337 (Rev 4/24), issued under Idaho Code 49-504. If you are an Idaho seller looking at this form because you cannot get to a county office, the form you actually want is probably ITD 3368, the limited power of attorney - ITD's Vehicle Titles page lists it as the situational document that authorises the county assessor to sign the application for an owner applying by post.

Two documents, and they are not the same thing. Take the blank 3337 from the itd.idaho.gov copy so you get the revision that is current today, then print our 3337 guide and keep it beside you while you fill theirs in.

What a completed one looks like

This is the actual 3337, rendered from the PDF the Idaho Transportation Department, Division of Motor Vehicles publishes and completed end to end: letterhead, every field, and the blocks at the foot.

Idaho form ITD 3337, Application for Certificate of Idaho Title, filled in for Harlan P. Amsberry of Boise as owner of a 2016 Subaru Outback wagon, vehicle identification number 4S4BSANC5G3241097, odometer 118,540 actual miles, purchased on 11 August 2026, with no lienholder and no previous state brand.
Filled in as the buyer's application, because that is whose form it is - the seller never signs this one. The whole of Section 3's dealer arithmetic is washed grey along with the seller's permit number, because a private sale has neither a permit nor a rebate nor a trade-in to subtract.
Field by field

Every line, in the order you meet it

  1. 1
    The buyer fills this in

Check first whether you need it at all

An in-state private sale is handled at a county assessor's motor vehicle office, which prepares the application for the buyer to sign.

Watch out: ITD lists this form as optional on its Vehicle Titles page, for out-of-state dealers, lienholders and leasing companies. Downloading it does not make it your route.

  2. 2
    The buyer fills this in

Section 1: who goes on the title

Full legal names, Idaho driver's licence numbers or SSNs, and the Or / And boxes that join them.

Watch out: Or means either owner can sign for the vehicle later; And means both must, every time. That choice outlives this transaction by years.

  3. 3
    The buyer fills this in

    Section 2: the vehicle

VIN, year, make, body type, model, colour - copied from the assigned certificate.

Watch out: Do not use codes from the old title. ITD's own instruction for its title forms is to spell out makes and models.

  4. 4
    The buyer fills this in

    The odometer block

Reading, date of reading, and one of the five statuses.

Watch out: Exempt is the status for a model year 2010 or older vehicle. It is not the status for a vehicle whose seller simply did not write a number down.

  5. 5
    The buyer fills this in

    Section 3: leave it alone

The sale block and its six money boxes are completed by the dealer, financial agency, leasing company or rental company.

Watch out: In a private sale the price lives on the bill of sale and on the title, and the county calculates the 6% from those.

  6. 6
    The buyer fills this in

    Section 4: any lien

The lender's name and mailing address, if the purchase is financed.

Watch out: If a lien is recorded here the title goes to the lienholder rather than to the owner, which is what ITD's Vehicle Titles page means by the title being mailed or electronically transmitted to the lienholder.

  7. 7
    The buyer fills this in

Section 8, in front of the witness

The applicant certifies the information and that the vehicle is theirs, and the dealer or financial agency witnesses it in Section 6.

Watch out: Signing at home defeats the form. Its instructions say without that witness it will not be processed.

  8. 8
    The buyer fills this in

    Send it with the money

The assigned title, this application, the state's fourteen-dollar title fee plus the county's admin fee, the sales or use tax, and a VIN inspection if the vehicle is arriving from out of state.

Watch out: Thirty days from delivery. Section 49-504A charges the new owner a twenty-dollar penalty on the thirty-first.

Rules that decide whether it is accepted

Every line here was read off 3337 (Rev 4/24) itself — the PDF is here — and off the Idaho Transportation Department, Division of Motor Vehicles pages. This is plain-language help with a form, not legal advice, and where our wording and the agency's differ, theirs governs.
