Alabama replaces a lost title for $15, and the application never has to be posted anywhere — the Department of Revenue takes it through its own online portal.
What Alabama charges

The part that catches people out
The choice Alabama gives you is between doing it yourself online and handing it to a designated agent. The Public Title Portal accepts the application directly from the owner; the paper route, Form MVT 12-1, goes through an agent who adds a commission on top of the state fee. Neither is wrong, but the agent path costs more than the $15 suggests, and county add-ons are not published as a single figure. If you are quoting a total to a buyer, quote the $15 as the floor rather than the price.
