Sell My Car Hub

How to fill out Idaho 3415

The alternative to selling it yourself: hand the car to a licensed Idaho dealer and let them find the buyer. The operative sentence is one line long - as the above vehicle's owner, I appoint the dealership named above to act as my agent for the purpose of offering my vehicle for sale in accordance with Idaho Code 49-1636 - and the rest of the page is the commercial terms. It matters that this is an ITD form rather than a dealership's own contract: a consignment sale is one of the ways a vehicle can lawfully be offered by somebody it is not titled to, which is otherwise the thing Idaho's dealer-licensing rules exist to stop.

Written against 3415 (Rev 10/23), issued under Idaho Code 49-1636. Consigning does not stop your own clocks. You are still the registered owner while the car sits on the lot, the plates and the registration card are still yours to remove, and the five-day release-of-liability window does not begin until the vehicle is actually delivered to a purchaser - which means you need the dealer to tell you the day that happens.

Two documents, and they are not the same thing. Take the blank 3415 from the itd.idaho.gov copy so you get the revision that is current today, then print our 3415 guide and keep it beside you while you fill theirs in.

What a completed one looks like

This is the actual 3415, rendered from the PDF the Idaho Transportation Department, Division of Motor Vehicles publishes and completed end to end: letterhead, every field, and the blocks at the foot.

Idaho form ITD 3415, Vehicle Consignment With a Licensed Idaho Dealer, filled in by Waverly J. Kittleson of Sandpoint consigning a 2016 Subaru Outback, vehicle identification number 4S4BSANC5G3241097, odometer 118,540, for a sixty-day consignment beginning 12 August 2026 at a ten per cent commission.
The lienholder block is washed grey because the vehicle is owned outright, and the selling price and selling fee boxes are grey too - they are filled in when the car actually sells, not when the agreement is signed. The commission is written in the percentage box, so the dollar box beside it stays empty.
Field by field

Every line, in the order you meet it

  1. 1
    You fill this in

Check the dealer's licence and number

The consignee block asks for a dealer number, and ITD publishes a list of active Idaho dealers.

Watch out: A consignment to somebody without a licence is not a consignment - it is an unlicensed dealer displaying your car.

  2. 2
    You fill this in

    The vehicle and the mileage

Year, make, model, VIN and the odometer reading on the day it goes on the lot.

Watch out: Note the reading yourself. A consigned car gets moved and demonstrated, and the figure at sale will not be this one.

  3. 3
    You fill this in

    Your details, and any lienholder

Name, licence number, phone, address - then the lender's name and the payoff amount if there is one.

Watch out: Get a written payoff quote with a good-through date. The figure moves, and the dealer will be working from what is on this sheet.

  4. 4
    You fill this in

Set the start and end dates

Two boxes, and they are the only protection you have against the car sitting there indefinitely.

Watch out: Ask what happens at the end date - returned, renewed, or reduced - and put the answer in Additional Comments.

  5. 5
    You fill this in

Agree the money in one box, not two

A flat fee or a percentage of the selling price, joined on the form by the word or.

Watch out: Ask whether reconditioning, detailing or advertising comes out of your side. That belongs in Additional Comments too.

  6. 6
    The buyer fills this in

Both of you sign, and keep a copy

Owner and dealer representative, each with a date.

Watch out: Take the plates and the registration card off before you leave the forecourt - they were never the car's, and the dealership has its own plates.

  7. 7
    You fill this in

Find out the day it actually sells

That is the day your five-day release-of-liability window opens.

Watch out: Put it in writing in Additional Comments if you have to. Section 49-526 measures from delivery to the purchaser, and nobody will remind you.
