Three stops on base for the car
- 01Traffic Management Office, Building 430. Hill’s household goods contact, at 7437 6th Street. Ask whether your orders cover shipping the car or storing it. Open weekdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- 02Auto Hobby Shop, Building 534. AUTOLOT permits come from here: $20 per 14-day period for a vehicle under 17 feet, $25 if it’s longer, with the For Sale sign supplied. The lot is by the skate park near Balmer and E Avenue. The car has to come off it if you, or someone acting for you, can’t be reached by buyers, on TDY or leave for example. The shop also tests emissions on vehicles under 7,800 pounds: $32, Friday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., by appointment.
- 03South Gate Visitor Control Center. A private buyer, or anyone else without base credentials, needs a sponsor, a state ID check and a background check to come on base. Sponsor them here in person, or through the center’s SharePoint from a government computer; Hill doesn’t allow sponsoring by phone. Passes are issued weekdays, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and by the South Gate entry controller after hours.
Where we pick up around Ogden
Pickup is free at your driveway anywhere in Ogden, including the 25th Street area (84401), and in the towns around it, from North Ogden (84414) south through Riverdale, Roy and Clearfield to Layton (84041).
Car in Hill base housing? Mention it when you schedule. The handoff usually happens just outside the gate, and the gate hours below show which one is open that day.
Hill’s nearest drop-off point for a shipped car is in Colorado
If your orders let you ship the car, Hill’s Military OneSource page points you to the PCSmyPOV site for it. PCSmyPOV’s list of vehicle processing centers has none in Utah. The closest one on it is the Denver VPC, in Aurora, Colorado. Whether your move pays to ship the car or to store it is a question for Hill’s Traffic Management Office, the first stop in the list further down.
To sell it, you can park it on Hill’s AUTOLOT with a For Sale sign and wait for a buyer, or sell it here. Getting an offer costs nothing, so you can hold one while you decide. Pickup can be set for your last week, around your report date, and you’re paid at pickup. Already reported somewhere else? Call and ask what’s workable. Still weighing it up? Cash for your car in Ogden
In Ogden, a car that won’t start becomes a problem when it snows. The city says no vehicle should be parked on the street while it’s snowing, when plowing is about to start, or once an inch of snow or ice has built up. A car left snowbound for more than 48 hours may be treated as abandoned and towed.
If that’s why you’re looking for cash for cars in Ogden, the car doesn’t have to start to get an offer, and pickup is still free. The same goes for a car that won’t pass Weber County’s emissions test. More on selling a car that’s past fixing is on our junk car page.
If the car hasn't moved since last winter because the engine seized or the transmission gave out, selling a car with a seized or blown engine and selling a car whose transmission has failed walk through that sale. A wrecked one has its own guide: selling a car after a wreck.
Two Lincoln Avenue stops, and Hill’s gate hours
- •Utah DMV, Ogden office — 2447 Lincoln Avenue, near 25th Street and Wall Avenue. Open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments get priority, and walk-in service after 4 p.m. may be limited (Utah DMV office list).
- •Exchange Zone, 2186 Lincoln Avenue — two stalls Ogden Police set aside for people meeting to buy or sell, on the northwest side of the Francom Public Safety Building lot, in view of security cameras. The footage isn’t monitored live, but police can review it (Ogden City).
- •Hill’s gates — the South Gate is open 24 hours, every day. The West Gate is open 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. The North Gate opens on weekdays only, 4:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Hill AFB, as of June 2026).
Asked by Ogden sellers
Does my car have to be registered with Hill's Pass and ID office?
No. Hill doesn't require vehicles to be registered with its Pass and ID office. What it does require is that every DoD ID cardholder registers the card in DBIDS, so the gate can scan it. You do that at the Military Personnel Flight in Building 430.
I live in Layton or Clearfield. Which DMV office can I use?
Any of them. The Utah DMV serves every customer at any of its offices, whatever the county. The Davis County office is at 969 W. Clark Lane in Farmington. It keeps the same weekday hours as the Ogden office and also gives appointments priority.
I'm keeping the car, and it will be out of state at my next base. What about Weber County's emissions test?
If the car stays registered in Utah, the Weber-Morgan Health Department, which runs Weber County's emissions program, offers a deferral for a vehicle that is temporarily out of state. You apply with documents showing where the car is, and the deferral lets you renew the registration. Once the car is back in Utah, it has to pass a test within 10 days. The department's number is 801-399-7140.
Is there somewhere on Hill to store an RV while I'm away?
Yes. Outdoor Recreation, at 7526 Balmer Avenue in Building 805, runs long-term RV storage. You must own the RV and show proof when you reserve, active-duty members get first priority, and the limit is 40 feet. The price is $60 a month, subject to change. Call 801-777-9666.
