- If you're selling, give us the date. Tell us your report date when you ask for the offer, and the pickup gets scheduled to beat it, with margin.
- Keep the insurance while you still drive it. To drive a privately owned vehicle on post, Fort Knox Regulation 190-5 requires proof of state registration or ownership, a valid license and proof of insurance, so don't cancel the policy while you still use the car.

Start with shipping. Military OneSource says the government will generally pay to ship one vehicle to your new duty station if that overseas installation allows it. The catch is at the other end: some host countries restrict foreign vehicles, and while a family sedan usually fits the size limit, an oversized truck or SUV can leave you paying excess costs.
Storage is the second route. Military OneSource says storing the car under the government's Global POV Contract means you never pay out of pocket for monthly storage. Deploying rather than moving? Ask your unit before counting on post storage: Fort Knox Regulation 190-5 keeps privately owned vehicles out of motor pools except for units in deployment exercises, or when the installation commander lets a unit store them there. It also bans using barracks or vacant parking lots for storage.

- •Back from overseas with the car? Fort Knox Regulation 190-5 treats overseas-issued plates as valid for only 30 days from the date the car reaches a U.S. port, and before that runs out the owner must register it with a state and put temporary or permanent state plates on it (source)

Can you pick up my car on Fort Knox?
Yes. We set up gate access and a pickup time with you in advance. The post's gate rules send commercial vehicles through Brandenburg Gate, near Muldraugh, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays, and through Chaffee Gate after 1 p.m., so that is part of what gets settled when we pick the time.
Which office handles the title when I sell a car in Elizabethtown?
In Kentucky, the title work people call the DMV happens at the county clerk. Here that is the Hardin County Clerk's office in the Hardin County Government Building, 150 N. Provident Way, Suite 103, open weekdays 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For a Kentucky title it asks for the completed title, proof of Kentucky insurance issued less than 45 days earlier, a state ID and the original lien release for any lien on the title, and it highly recommends that buyer and seller come in together. Its Radcliff branch at 101 W. Lincoln Trail Blvd handles vehicle registration Tuesday through Thursday.
Where can I get my car checked on Fort Knox before I decide to ship or sell it?
At the post's Automotive Skills center, Building 1054, 706 Spearhead Division Ave. It lists pre-trip or "lemon" inspections among its services, and its DIY bays let you put the car on a lift yourself after a short safety class. It is open to eligible ID cardholders and their families, Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the car must be registered and insured.
I'm active duty and don't claim Kentucky residency. Who do I ask about the tax on my car?
The Hardin County Property Valuation Administrator's Office (PVA). The clerk's own page tells active-duty members who don't claim Kentucky as their state of residency to contact the PVA at 270-765-2129 about their taxes. Once you have asked the PVA to correct or remove the tax segment, you can renew the registration online or through the clerk.
