Does Carvana buy leased cars? From 12 leasing companies

Does Carvana buy leased cars from any leasing company? No, only from 12 that its help center names, and only when the lease has more than 30 days left. With any other company, you buy the car out, get a title in your name with no lien, then ask Carvana for a fresh offer.

Carvana lease buyout: the 12 leasing companies it names

Carvana’s help article “Will you buy out my leased vehicle?” starts with a yes for “a few leasing companies,” then narrows it. As read on October 25, 2026, it says Carvana “will only purchase leased vehicles” from these approved leasing companies:

The article adds that “Your lease must have more than 30 days remaining to be eligible.” After the offer, you upload a photo ID, current registration, an odometer photo and an account statement with the full lease account number and maturity date. The list gives names the way Carvana wrote them, so check them against the leasing company named on your contract, and ask Carvana if you’re unsure.

The sell page says the same thing from the other side: whether Carvana can buy a leased car “depends on your leasing company policies,” because some leasing companies won’t let it pay off a customer’s lease. Put the lease details in your appraisal answers, and Carvana says that in most cases it can give next steps with the offer. Carvana’s limits beyond leases, from title rules to the drive test, sit on what Carvana won’t buy.

If your leasing company isn’t on the list

Carvana won’t deal with an unlisted leasing company for you. Its article lays out four steps instead:

  1. Read your lease for the terms of buying the car early.
  2. Pay off the lease directly with the leasing company.
  3. Get a new title in your name.
  4. Return to Carvana for a new offer, and say the car is no longer leased.

Two sentences in that article carry the weight. The new title must show “you’re the sole owner of the vehicle with no outstanding liens.” And Carvana “can't accept a leaseholder's title, even if it's been signed over to you.” So a title the leasing company signed over is not enough. If you finance the buyout and the lender is recorded on the new title, that lien has to be cleared before this route works.

Our guide to selling a leased car covers what Carvana’s page leaves to you: which leasing companies take a payoff from outside buyers, and how states tax a buyout.

Is the buyout worth it?

Only when an offer beats what it costs to own the car outright. Ask the leasing company for its payoff figure and subtract it from Carvana’s offer, or anyone else’s. When the payoff is the bigger number, the sale costs you money, and returning the car at the end of the lease may be the cheaper exit.

Watch the clocks. A Carvana offer is valid for 7 days, and the approved-company route closes once 30 days or fewer remain on the lease. On the buyout route, the offer you sell on comes after the new title arrives and you resubmit the car as no longer leased. To judge the buyout beforehand, Carvana’s Value Tracker gives a value without a sale; its help center says you can sign up “without selling or buying with us.”

If your leasing company is on the list and the offer beats the payoff, Carvana is likely the better exit: it pays the leasing company, so you never buy the car or retitle it yourself.

Who else buys a car coming off a lease

While the lease runs, the leasing company decides who can pay it off. Some carmakers’ finance arms accept a payoff only from the lessee or from their own brand’s dealers; the lease guide linked above quotes four lenders’ own rules.

Our buying partner’s help page says all liens and loans “must be paid in full before we can buy your vehicle,” and a leased car belongs to the leasing company until the buyout. Once you own the car and hold the title, price it with our buying partner and set that number beside Carvana’s new offer. We are not affiliated with Carvana or any leasing company on its list.

Common questions

What people ask about this

Does Carvana do a lease buyout with any leasing company?

No. Its help article names 12 approved leasing companies and says it will only purchase leased vehicles from them. With any other company, you pay off the lease yourself, title the car in your name, then ask Carvana for a new offer.

How much time has to be left on my lease?

More than 30 days. Carvana’s lease article makes that a condition of its payoff route; with less time left, that route is closed.

Will Carvana accept the title my leasing company signed over to me?

No. Carvana says it can’t accept a leaseholder’s title even when it has been signed over. You need a new title showing you as the sole owner, with no outstanding liens.

What does Carvana need to buy out a lease?

A photo ID, current registration, a picture of the odometer, an account statement with the full lease account number and maturity date, and a customer or dealer lease payoff document. You upload them to your account after the offer.
