Its hours are 8 to 4, Monday through Friday, with no weekend hours, and it books appointments online through ExpressLane. The nearest other field offices keep the same hours: 1613 E. Main St. in New Iberia, 101 Berard St., Suite D, in Breaux Bridge, and 112 Rue Centre in Abbeville.
Is there a watched spot in Lafayette for handing a car to a buyer?
Yes. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office keeps a Safe Exchange Zone beside its main office at 316 W. Main St. The spaces are well lit and on live video around the clock, but no deputy stands at them. The Sheriff's Office lists its hours there as Monday through Friday, 8 to 5, needs no appointment, and requires the exchange to happen in person. It also suggests meeting in daylight and bringing a friend.
I live in Carencro. Does Lafayette's junked-car rule apply to me?
Not inside Carencro's city limits, which have their own rule in Chapter 22 of the Carencro code. There, the city puts a written notice on the car and hands it to the owner or sends it by certified mail, and the car must be moved within 15 days. To contest it, send a written hearing request to the Carencro Police Department, 110 Centennial Drive, within those 15 days. A violation is a misdemeanor: a fine of up to $500, up to six months in jail, or both.
