Getting a buyer through the Fort Gordon gate
- Pick a weekday. Visitors get passes at the Visitor Control Center by Gate 6, off Gordon Highway (US-78) on the east side of post. It's open 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends and federal holidays.
- Tell the buyer what to bring. Anyone 18 or older driving onto post without an escort needs a visitor's pass, and getting one takes a background check. Visitors 18 and up also show a photo ID, such as a driver's license, state ID or passport. Questions go to (706) 791-3071.
- Know the check can say no. The garrison can deny access for reasons that include a current arrest warrant or a felony conviction in the last 10 years. A visitor turned down after the check is told how and where to submit a waiver.
Where we pick up around Augusta
We pick up across Augusta, from downtown (30901) and the Hill to the medical district and out to Hephzibah. Columbia County is covered from Martinez and Evans (30809) out through Grovetown to Harlem and Appling, and Thomson is on the map too. North Augusta (29841) sits across the river in South Carolina, and a car there gets the same offer as one on the Georgia side.

Leaving Fort Gordon with a car to move or sell
The post took the name Fort Eisenhower in 2023 and went back to Fort Gordon in 2025, so you may still see either name on official pages. The installation no longer registers vehicles. Georgia registration is done off post at the county tag office, which the Department of Revenue calls the best resource for most registration, plate and title questions.
PCS orders may entitle you to ship or store one car at government expense. Between two stateside posts, Military OneSource says moving the car is largely your cost, with some exceptions. The Transportation Office in Darling Hall, Room 111A, at 307 Chamberlain Avenue, helps with entitlements and shipping on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weighing a sale instead? Cash for your car in Augusta
Augusta-Richmond County Code 3-5-135 counts a car as inoperative or junk if it is wrecked, dismantled, inoperative, abandoned, discarded or scrapped, or has no valid license plate attached. A car like that can't stay parked on residentially zoned property unless it's in a completely enclosed building or on land zoned for it, and the Richmond County Marshal's Office takes the complaints. That takes in a car still crumpled from a Helene tree limb, and the one in the side yard that lost its tag years ago.

Is the Richmond County tag office still in Darling Hall on Fort Gordon?
No. Military OneSource's Fort Gordon page says the Richmond County tag office is no longer in Darling Hall. For Georgia DMV business, go to one of the Tax Commissioner's three offices listed above instead.
Can I get an appointment at the Columbia County tag office?
For complex transactions, yes. Columbia County's Motor Vehicle Division books time with a Motor Vehicle Specialist for cases such as inheriting two or more vehicles or a surety bond transaction. Call 706-868-6884.
Where would I turn in my car for shipping from Fort Gordon?
Military OneSource says to contact the vehicle processing center nearest your duty station, and it puts Fort Gordon 138 miles from Charleston and 139 from Atlanta. PCSmyPOV lists a center near each: 2880A Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston, by appointment only, and 2579 Campbell Boulevard in Ellenwood, its Atlanta center. Both are open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
Where can I meet a car buyer safely in Augusta?
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office lists three parking lots for internet-sale exchanges, under 24-hour surveillance by deputies: the old Law Enforcement Center at 401 Walton Way, the Charles B. Webster Detention Center at 1941 Phinizy Road, and the Marshal's Office space at the Municipal Building, 535 Telfair Street. The office notes that the lots are not directly supervised.
