Is a smog check required to sell a car that's only three years old in San Jose?
No. California exempts vehicles four model years old or newer from the pre-sale smog inspection — the buyer pays a smog transfer fee at registration instead. Given how young San Jose's cars run, a large share of sellers here skip the smog station entirely.
Can I sell a car in San Jose that still has a loan on it?
